The review went more or less fine, I think.
I did talk, and made some mistakes, the biggest one, not to be very direct so the people was a bit confused... I start to talk from the very begining -not talking much about the "magazine"- but about all the generation of the idea, to try to make people understand our ideation/design process, all the ideas behind the proposal. That made me run a bit with the actual point where we are...
If I had to do it again I would talk just about the present, but something we know already for the next time...
The main critics were:
-why FLAT? bad connotations, not direct relation with the event, just with the packaging...
-design needed
-number of pockets?
-explain clearly the idea of the "audience interaction"
...
there are more but I'm a bit tired! we'll explain it to you next time we meet!
We talk about meeting on Saturday morning and decide the general corporative image to be able to used it for the yet blank designs.
Tomorrow Sophie and I will go to buy some different papers to make a decision about what kind are we going to use and make printing test to see how the colours fit.
It could be great to have for Thursday a prototype finished, make the review with it on Thursday or Friday and between then and the final presentation do the 6 copies and the changes they could suggest...
what do you think?
danielle, how are you? I hope it's nothing serious! I think you should send an e-mail to mike-tutor to let him know! we knew nothing about you for some days!
mike, I love what you wrote on the backcover! we all love it! thank you!
-I'm free tomorrow afternoon/evening as well is someone wants to meet...

I think it went well, yeah would be good to have the prototype design done for Thursday. With an actual finished piece i think it will be much easier for people to understand what it is which was one of the main things people struggled with today.
done a few designs for things using the pink and black so I'll have them ready to show on Saturday
great!
unfortunately i will be away this weekend. i will continue my work on an overall look and feel for the visual design of the "exploration kit". i will produce seperate logos as well as a little "identity guidelines" pdf so that everybody can design to the same specifications.
i guess the most important thing for me is whether to keep the name "flat". what does everybody think about this? i was under the impression that we were designing the event as well as the promotional material, and that the event would have a flat theme as well? if this is the case then i think we should keep the name.
i definitely think a prototype by thursday is necessary.
unless anybody disagrees about the name "flat", i will have a full identity kit for the magazine and event ready by the end of sunday.
about FLAT:
I like the name because I like how it sounds, and because of the meaning "to share a flat" (what we're doing in the new building)and the event could be the common space.
They critizise the bad connotations of the word, the 2D meaning... About these you know much more than me so english speaking mates: it's your decision!
-the 2D meaning I like because the font is in 3D! it'd be great if the animation would show the word flat growing from 2D to 3D, like expanding... I think if you decide two keep it that we should give them an explanation as well!
Anyway, I think that maybe the problem with it is that I gave too many details in the presentation and I said that we chose "flat" as name of the magazine because the only condition we gave to each discipline was that the content had to be flat.
So then they say that it look like the name was just related to the packaging and not to the event...
maybe we could call it "Kitchen", haha!, I like it, where the things are cooked...
I talked to sophie, we were printing... and we said about meeting on monday instead of tomorrow because mike is not here and we haven't got news from danielle!
if mike does the general design, sophie finish the ID and the manifesto, andrew: are you with the website? danielle? I'll make a compilation of the main ideas, I mean, sumarize all we've got and find the main idea instead of 2000...
we all should thing in what should be in how to represent the plan for the event + other event activities...
...
i have had a think (it hurt!) and i've decided that FLAT is a perfectly good name, in fact it is a great solution. it functions well both as a name for the magazine (due to the nature of its contents) but also as a theme for the event because we can have a "FLAT party" which simultaneously communicates the elements of student life, the shared space, and the music.
as for the negative connotations – i don't think this is an issue. "medication" doesn't have particularly positive connotations but it is still a popular event. this is a bad example but you know what i mean!?
i will carry on with the brand identity kit etc based on the above.
