I think that it might be better if we created a new logo for the CC as i think the creative commons logo is actually only to be used for creative commons use. It would also be more unique i think as we can use what the creative commons stands for in the manifesto and have a different logo.
If we use the creative commons logo for the group some people may be confused by it and not understand that it is for Collective Community.

I think we all need to decide what we are going to do about this, here are my thoughts:
Use of the Creative Commons logo as part of the CC logo (i.e. the simple addition of the word "The") is a deliberate act of detournement that says "We are a cheeky, subversive, bold collective". Appropriating the message and philosophy of the Creative Commons badge (which some people will not recognise) is an elegant way of executing the will of the CC manifesto.
Admittedly for people who are aware of what the Creative Commons is they are going to be confused.
Possible solution to this would be to keep the Creative Commons logo but flip it so that it reads backwards. I definitely think that "borrowing" the Commons' logo is an integral part of this idea in the way that we are also borrowing their philosophy and being quite cheeky about it. This kind of layered meaning is really great.
The Commons' are all about sharing ideas and breaking down the black and white of everyday copyright legislation. Breaking rules is something that art students should do instinctively, and sharing ideas is something that I personally think is really important, besides having a heavy presence in the HIVE manifesto.
I also think that The CC should be a new age brand, that is one that is not static. We represent something that is in constant flux and as such the letters CC do not need to represent any specific words, but a combination for example "creative collective", "combined consciousness", "collaborative connection" and of course "cool cats".
This is my opinion!
well maybe we could think about modifing the logo a little for example the addition of a letter t "tcc" or 2 circles with a c in each, jus sumthin a little differnt but still sharing the same concept
all could be potential solutions.
I do agree 100% with Mike.
We need to make as clear as posible our philosophy! -through the manifesto and through every single thing. I would say that every single "object" has to be/is full of meaning and what the manifesto does is to give an order and an importance to these meanings, to these thougts, it's like an index and a glossary together!
i wasn't saying that the manifesto should be changed just the "cc" logo could be altered a little which fits in with the creative commons philosophy better than just using a direct copy of the logo. I think the creative commons is more about helping one another and sharing work not taking work.
so the point i was getting at was that using the creative commons logo is a good idea but it fits more to alter the logo in our own way
